Redken symposium 2011

We made it!! January finally arrived and so did the Symposium! I can't believe I got the chance to go! Thanks to some great family in my life, I made it! And I am so thankful I did, cause I learned so much, and it was a dream getaway to go with some amazingly fun girls from work and spend a weekend in Vegas talking about hair! Every single girl of the 10,000 that showed up, wanted to talk about the same thing!!! It was a dream!! I love that I am in an industry where education is so big and its everywhere! Not alot of careers out there give you the oppertunity to continue your education, and that quality is one of my favorites about my career. I truly feel that I am in a job I am supposed to be in, and most days it doesn't even feel like a job!! I LOVE what I do!!!! So anyway, back to the weekend.....Once I arrived the girls who had drove picked me up from the airport and we dropped off my stuff! We got ready and headed out for a great night!! Becca was very interested in where we were going to go eat, so we decided to go to Planet Hollywood the resteraunt. Of course we did the tourist thing and thought we could walk there cause of course, it didn't look that far. I mean we could see the Planet Hollywood hotel, so it had to be close!! :) {Yeah right!}
So we headed down the strip taking in all the sights and having so much fun. We stopped to take pictures with Micheal Jackson, and then stopped at a Ross store that is on the strip! Megan had a blast there!!! And Sherisse needed a jacket and Becca needed new shoes! Finally about an hour later, we get back on our trek. Did I mention it was already like nine?! Once we finally arrived to Planet Hollywood we asked a worker there where the resteraunt is, and guess what we found out!! The Planet Hollywood Resteraunt is in fact, not at Planet Hollywood, it is about a forty five minute walk to Ceasars Palace!!!!! How Ironic!!! The lady who told us where it was gave us a coupon for a free appetizer, and as soon as Megan got that coupon, there was no way we were not going to Planet Hollywood!! Well......we finally made it to Ceaser's and guess what....It is at the complete opposite end of the building!! The best part, as soon as we found the directory and noticed there was a Cheescake Factory, that was it! We headed there instead!!! But it turned out great and the food was so good!!!

Then guess who we saw!!! It turns out it was the rapper Ray J's birthday and him and his sister Brandi the singer, were there to celebrate! Of course we had to stay!!! So we hung out and waited to see them! We had heard that Snoop Dog, the rapper was coming but we figured he wouldn't be there until way later in the night! So after we saw Ray J and Brandi, we left and decided it wasn't worth it to walk back so we waited for a cab! When it came our turn, the guy asked where we were headed and I said the Luxor. Instead of waiving us to a cab, he goes to a black tinted van that had just pulled up to help them. As soon as the door opens, a very heavy and steady stream of smoke {Pot smoke} came pouring out! When I say, steady stream, I mean it was a constant and consistant stream of smoke coming out! We all joked, "Oh, that must be Snoop dog!" But first to leave the van were three massive body guard size men and then about four or five girls. Then all of the sudden SNOOP DOG himself gets out of the car direclty three feet in front of us!!! What a CRAZY night we had!!! I didn't manage to get a picture of him cause my purse was zipped shut with the camera inside. But it was such a fun night, and a great start to an AMAZING weekend!!! Thanks so much girls for such a fun time! And thanks to my family who helped get me there!!! I can't wait till the next one!!!

Symposium Day 2

Our Daily Photo!! This was our first real day in Vegas. There weren't any classes this day but we did go register. Jenni Didn't spend the night with us which was fine, it gave us more room, but we got to see her later when her and Ether joined us to register. We headed over to Mandalay Bay and signed in. There were so many people it was crazy! And I was exhausted. That night which was our first night in the hotel, Becca and I actually didn't sleep very well. I couldn't get to sleep till about four thirty in the morning, and Megan's phone which was in the kitchen went off. I knew if I had got up to turn it off that I wouldn't be able to fall back asleep so I tried to ignore it but Becca couldn't sleep with it going so she got up and turned it off. By the way, the alarm went off at six thirty in the morning. So I in total got about two hours of sleep. After that, I was kind of in and out of sleep and by eight thirty I knew there was no more sleep in the cards for me, so I got up and Becca was up so we went and got breakfast. {During this trip I earned the title, Energy Bunny. I guess I just keep going} Which is true cause this whole day, even off of two and a half hours of sleep I was still going and we didn't get back to the hotel until about one that night! After we registered, we went to lunch at this really good sports bar that was close to the symposium. Ether was the one who helped us pick a good place to go. After Lunch Ether and Jenni left to go on a date and we went back to the hotel to relax from the night before. We got ready and went back to the symposium, for the opening show event! I have to admit, I didn't think it was going to be good, but I was pleasanlty suprised!! We ended up sitting somewhere way up top, and it was quite boring, so we decided we were sneaking into a better seat, and boy did we ever!! We ended up four rows back from where the models came and walked on the runway. It was like a real Vegas show but based on the hair styles! My favorite was the spider web one!! It was such a great show!! After the show, I was starving so we went across the street to the New York, New York to look for a place. We found a great pizza place which was fairly cheap! After dinner we were all tired but I knew that this was my one chance to go on the roller coaster and lucky for me, Sherisse was in!!! It was so much fun and I'm so glad she went with me! I screamed almost the whole way and then laughed so hard the rest of it! Such a fun night!!!!

This was my favorite part from the show! There were girls climbing all up and down around the webs and some were hanigin from the cieling holding on by ropes and hula hoops! Great show!

Some of the differnt hair styles from the show!

Redken Symposiom Day 3

This was the Begining of Day three and we woke up and got ready for our first classes and took our daily picture! We took this picture in the third room where the bed was. And over looking the strip! We were so excited to get to the classes and they turned out so much fun! I learned lots! After classes we decided we had, had enough of walking through the casino with all of the smoke and wanted some fresh air. So these next pics were outside of the Luxor behind it. The moon looked really cool and that was what we were trying to take a picture of but it didn't work out. Oh well, we still had fun posing! I know I sure did!!! I think my favorite part of the whole trip was that with five girls together all day and all night and five different opinions, we still all got along, and respected each other! Which made it that much better! No Drama!!! After the first day of classes, The other girls wanted to meet up with Shae. She used to live up in Logan and worked at the Kuttin Edge with them, so she met up with us and took us to the great Thai Resteraunt where Sherisse was so kind and ordered a great soup and appetizer for us! We must of been so hungry cause we ate everything! From the soup to the appetizers to all of our own individual entrees! We shared everything and it was all amazing!!! Great dinner choice Shae! We Loved it! After dinner we convinced Shae to come with us and sneak into the concert! It was a success! We got her in and had so much fun!!!!

We Loved to Dance and Dance! We had So much fun!

TRAIN

After our classes, we went to concert and it was in this massive open area which I have no idea how it is there! You walk down this long hall and to one side there is an arena that the opening show was at, and then stairs to take you up to where all the conference rooms are where all the classes were. And then if you kept walking, there was the big arena and it was so much fun inside! They had made their own Las Vegas dance club in there! Now remember there were 10,000 stylist attending the show, and inside there were food stations with gourmet pizzas and appetizers and drinks. There was also an elevated dance floor and a band with the D.J. way up above everyone and the dance floors, and there were lounges with couches everywhere and beautiful light fixtures, and girls hanging from the ceiling in the hula hoops and ropes. It was so crazy in there! At the very front of the room was the stage where Train Performed!!! It was such a great concert! Jenni, Megan, and I were so ready to dance we went ahead and tried to get close to the stage while Becca, Sherisse, and Shae stayed farther back in one of the lounges. Once Train came out and the concert got started, everyone kept feeling so bad for us and how short we were that they kept pushing us closer and closer to the stage. So when we started we were about twenty rows back, and by time it ended, we were four rows from the stage!! It was such a good show and we had so much fun dancing!! After the concert some of the girls wanted to get some Gelato at Ceasars Palace, so we hoped in the car and drove instead of walking this time! {Thank Goodness} We got there and had our Gelato and were having to much fun we didn't want to go back to the hotel so Sherisse wanted to take us to Freemont street, and go see the lights of Old Las Vegas. It was such a fun night and we didn't even head back to the hotel until about two in the morning!!!
This was on Freemont Stree, there wasn't a whole lot to do there so we just started dancing and doing jumps and taking pictures! Even random people on the street joined in! The first picture is of us girl's trying to do the kick jumps and then the last picture was of Megan and some random guy who we met and they started dancing and having a dance off!! {Just kidding. She was teaching him how to do a kick jump!}

On Freemont street we ran into Elvis! {As if the night could have ended without seeing Elvis} Now when I say Elivs, that is being kind. I think this guy just saw an oppertunity that he could dress up as Elvis and make people pay tips. Well, he was not the greatest impersonator and was actually the worst! When he walked up he looked like he had bought his suit at KMart on a halloween special and maybe found the wig at some scary dollar store! He looked aweful! Anyway, we asked if we could get a picture with him. This was his reply, "Of course I'll take a picture with you ladies, I usually take tips but if you dont have any money its okay. I'll still take a picture with you." Oh gosh. He probably doesn't make alot of money doing this. So we asked him to do an Elivs pose and he said yeah do it like this! {See the picture above} We had another camera so we asked for a different pose. This is his reply, " Yeah we will do something different. It goes like this, we turn to the other side and point!" Ummm......it was the same pose! Ha Ha!! This guy was crazy!! But a great story!!!
After Freemont Street, we were driving back to the strip and had to stop because Megan and Jenni and Sherisse saw a Pawn Shop that I guess is on T.V. So we stopped and needless to say it was in a very scary part of town. I didn't want to get out of the car, but there was NO way that I was staying in the scary parking lot by myself. Megan was a little sad cause it was closed but they were really excited that they got to take pictures with it. I was not so much excited, there were girls there who I think were doing drugs, and a homeless man who was walking down the street talking to himself. It was quite scary and I was so happy and actually felt safe again when we headed back to the strip! {Who would of thought that the strip could make you feel safe:)}
This was the end of day three! Good Night!!

Symposium day 4

This was on our last day of Vegas at our hotel. This was taken in the suite's middle room with the dinning room and kitchen in it. It was so much fun to have a big room to come back to, especially with five girls in one room! So on this day we headed to the symposium for the last three classes of the day. We had so much fun just taking it all in before we left back home! After the first class we had lunch and Megan, Sherrisse, and Jenni wanted to go to a crepe place in the Luxor/Mandalay Bay hallway and Becca and I stayed by the classes and had lunch there! After lunch I wanted to go get a crimper that was introduced at the show so we went to the gallerie and got one. {I LOVE it!! I have used it so much for so many different things!} After lunch we had our last two classes which were great and I learned so much! One of the classes I liked the best was the class by Ty Isobi and another guy. They made it look like a magic show and it was all about color correction and different techniques of applying color. It was a lot of fun cause they were so funny to listen to. You could just tell that they enjoyed what they did on the show and also what they love to do everyday. Ty is actually one of two American artists on the all star team so it was fun to see him and what he could do. we actually got a picture with him after the concert on the third day! After classes, we went to grab some dinner at the mall down the street from our hotel and stopped at California Pizza Kitchen. Jenni's friend Ether who lives in Las Vegas came and picked her up, she was staying an extra day with him and then headed to Hawaii for a marathon. I was getting worried about missing my flight so I had to keep reminding everyone to hurry and drop me off. :) I was very thankful that they took me to the airport. Once I got the the airport, I learned my flight was delayed an hour so I hung out while waiting and just shopped for a bit. I finally arrived to Salt Lake on such a high from the strip just to come home and learn that they had left my bag in Las Vegas!! So I had to wait until one thiry for the next plane to see if they had loaded it!! Thankfully it was on that plane so I grabbed it and ran out of there to meet up with Ryan. It was such an amazing trip and I learned so much and had so much fun!!! Talk about a GREAT Girl's trip!!!! And all about hair too so for me, it was one of the best vacations I could have ever gone on!!!! Thank you so much to My mother in law for paying for my ticket to go to the show and to all of my family who gave me money for christmas and my birthday so that I could pay for my flight and hotel and food and fun!!!! 2013 Redken Symposium......I can NOT wait!!!!!

Things Change....

It is now the begining of the year and of course, some scientist or Astrologist has changed our world's entire way of life!! {This sentence may be a little dramatic, but let me explain}
There has been a change in the Zodiac signs and they have added a new sign, Ophiuchus. Here is their explanation to why...
Astronomer Parke Kunkle says that due to changes in the Earth's alignment the dates of many zodiac signs have changed, In addition, there may be a 13th Zodiac sign: Ophiuchus. Kunkle says that as the Earth and Sun slowly move the signs gradually change, as expected.
The change didn't happen over night either. The 12 signs were designated to different periods of the year almost 3,000 years ago, when
astrology began, and since then the Earth's position in relation to the sun has changed. Although the signs have changed, it shouldn't change horoscope readings.It's a new year, and there's new Zodiac signs for many in 2011. Professor Parke Kunkle of the Minnesota Planetarium Society says the Zodiac has a date problem. If you imagine the Earth as a spinning top, the axis changes as it wobbles. 5,000 years later, it means the stars are not aligned, so those with a Libra horoscope are really a Virgo, and many others have a new Zodiac sign too. “Right now its pointing this way, the North Star, but 3000 BC it was pointing differently,” Kunkle said. “Now things have moved and the sun is in a different constellation. We're about a whole constellation off.“ And don’t forget Ophiuchus, astrology’s orphan.”Ophiuchus has been a constellation for years and it just gets left out,” Kunkle said.

Now I normally don't care about these signs or check my horoscopes, I'm still a little bothered by it. I am a Sagittarious and always will be. I don't want to have to change it. So here is the new Zodiac signs:
Capricorn January 20- to February 16
Aquarius February 16 to March 11
Pisces March 11 to April 18.
Aries April 18 to May 13
Taurus May 13 to June 21.
Gemini June 21 to July 20
Cancer July 20 to August 10
Leo August 10 to September 16
Virgo September 16 to October 30
Libra October 30 to November 23
Scorpio November 23 to November 29
Ophiuchus November 29 to December 17
Sagittarius December 17 to January 20

Booo! This means that I have now been changed from a Sagittarius to an Ophiucus. {I'm not happy about it.}
Ryan is now a Capricorn and Tayli Bug is a Gemini.
So now here is the new Zodiac Signs description:
Ophiuchus, Greek for 'serpent-bearer,' is a large constellation that falls along the celestial equator, and falls between Aquila, Serpens, and Hercules in the northwest center of the Milky Way. While the origins of the character himself remain questionable, the constellation was one of the 48 discovered by the ancient philosopher Ptolemy.
The constellation has also gone by the name Serpentarius, the Latin version of its current name. Ophiuchus is depicted as a man holding a snake, as the constellation splits Serpens into two smaller constellations, Serpens Caput and Serpens Cauda, which are otherwise counted as one.
{I HATE snakes. This is just perfect!!}

The perfect end to a new begining

This new years eve we celebrated with some friends and some neighbors at our house. We had just got our Wii Nintendo game system and so we were ready to try it out!!! We all had a blast bowling, and ski jumping, and hula hooping on the Wii while the kids all played. It was great having kids over to play with Tayli, sometimes it breaks my heart that she is the only baby and then other times I think its the greatest thing that she is the only one! But it was good for her to have her friends there and play with her. All the parents just played games like the Wii and we had a bowling tournament and then a ski jumping tournament. We also played the M&M game which was so much fun! I love to play games so it was a great night for me to get to play with lots of people! Since everyone that was there had kids, our new years party ended about 11 p.m. But thats okay, Tayli was very tired and so were we! It isn't a tradition of Ryan and I's but we always seem to end up doing the same thing every new years. We end up in bed watching the "Dick Clark's New Years Rockin' Eve" Party with our martini glasses and sparkling cider! And we always seem to say our new years wishes and goals and then countdown to the ball dropping, to top off the night with a kiss. And then as soon as midnight comes, we go to bed:). Not the most exciting night, but it still has been funny to watch how every new year we end up doing the same thing without planning it that way! Who knows, maybe it will continue and will actually become our tradition!!
The next day we had plans with our friends, the Rosales' to go sledding and on a sleigh ride at hardware ranch up Logan Canyon. The first thing we did was the sleigh ride to see all of the elk up there. Ryan loved it cause he likes to see all the elk there and just watch them. Tayli liked the snow on the sleigh and kept trying to push it off, she wanted to go run around with the elk, more than just look at them. I wasn't too impressed with the ride, it was about five minutes and the horses just pull you in a circle and you watch the elk eat. Not too exciting, but still something fun to do. After that, we headed back to Logan to try and find somewhere to go sledding. We couldn't find anywhere for a while so we decided to pull the sleigh behind the truck. BAD IDEA! I did not enjoy it at all! As soon as the truck started, I was done and screaming to make it stop!! But Carlos thought it looked fun, so I hoped in the back and watched to make sure he wouldn't get hurt! After that we went to a park and it was packed! Everybody had the same idea I guess, but it was still fun. We spent the day going up and down the hill and Tayli Loved it! She was cold, but had a fun time! It seemed like the weekend wouldn't end cause after all of this....We also went BOWLING! It was so much fun and a great way to end the year and begin a new one! Having a baby on new years definatly changes what you to do celebrate but I feel like it makes it so much better! I can't wait to see what this new year brings for her and all that she will learn and do and see! So... CHEERS!!!!.....To the new year!! Here's to 2011! Can't wait to see what it brings!!
